What
is Dermabrasion?
In this procedure, the top layers of the skin are mechanically
scraped with a high-speed rotary wheel. Surface irregularities,
including tattoos, fine wrinkles and acne scars are softened.
This procedure works especially well for fine wrinkles around the
mouth area and acne scarring on cheeks.

Am
I a candidate for this procedure?
Men and women of all ages can benefit from this procedure, but
older people will experience a slower recovery. The most important
features to recognize are your skin type, skin coloring, and medical
history. If skin is exposed to the sun it may become permanently
discolored or blotchy after a skin-refinishing treatment.
Sun protection is recommended to avoid hyperpigmentation.
People susceptible to allergic rashes may experience a flare-up,
and freckles may disappear in the treated area. For a private
consultation, please call Dr. Bradley at 618-355-0993

What
are the benefits of this procedure?
This procedure is usually used for those with darker skin
tones because it is less likely than a chemical peel to create
uneven skin tones. For deeper acne scars, dermabrasion works
better than a chemical peel. Multiple treatments may be
required.

How

and high dose vitamins to avoid to prevent problems with blood
clotting.

What
does surgery involve?
Dr. Bradley uses a rough wire brush with diamond particles
on a motorized handle to scrape away the outer layer of skin,
smoothing out skin's imperfections.

Will

released a few hours after surgery.

When
can I return to my normal lifestyle?
You can expect to return to work within 2 weeks, but don't
plan any strenuous activity for 4 to 6 weeks. The redness
should fade within 3 months. While Dr. Bradley recommends
you always protect yourself from the sun, it's mandatory to remain
out of the sun for 6 to 12 months for optimal results and to avoid
hyperpigmentation of the treated area.

Will
I need a follow-up visit?
With every procedure, Dr. Bradley strives to provide personal
follow-up visits to monitor your progress and answer any post-operative
questions. The results should be permanent, but new wrinkles
may form as skin ages. Depending on the extent of scarring
or wrinkling, you may require more than one session.
