What is Ear Surgery?
Ear surgery is a procedure used to reduce the size of large ears or to set prominent ears back closer to the head.

Am I a candidate for this procedure?
The procedure is most commonly performed on children between the ages of 4 and 14, but it can also be done on adults.  For a private consultation, please call Dr. Bradley at 618-355-0993.

What are the benefits of this procedure?
Ears are natural looking and more proportionate.  This procedure will leave only a very faint scar that will eventually fade over time.

How long does the procedure last?
The procedure is usually outpatient and lasts 2 to 3 hours.  General anesthesia is used on young children.  Older children and adults may receive general or local anasthesia.

How do I prepare for surgery?
Dr. Bradley will evaluate your condition in the first meeting.  He recommends that you watch your child's behavior to make sure their protruding ears bother them enough to warrant surgery.  Generally, the more the child wants the surgery, the more cooperative they will be during sugery.

What does surgery involve?
Typically, an incision is made in the back of the ear and the cartilage is molded and pulled back closer to the head.  Unremovable stitches, hidden from view, support the new look.

Will I spend the night in your facility or be released after surgery?
Ear surgery is generally an outpatient procedure.  Both adults and children are usually up and around within a few hours.

When can I return to my normal lifestyle?
After surgery you can return to work or school within 5 to 7 days, but wait 1 to 2 months before participating in any strenuous activity.

With every procedure, Dr. Bradley strives to provide personal follow-up visits to monitor your progress and answer any post-operative questions.
